 ART POLL   PROJECTS

Where private participation is transformed into public art!

Jessica uses no-code forms to craft text based interactive experiences that elicit remarkably uninhibited responses from participants. You send the form link to the chosen community and, without leaving the safety of their home, they experience participation. The forms invite simple answers and multiple choices that cumulate to craft a potent metaphor, in an experience that feels like a fun brainstorm.

Many hundreds of people usually complete the forms!

And a handful opt-in to have their answers turned into an artwork, usually involving photography. Then they are invited to a photoshoot that expresses their answers and forms part of a public exhibition.

Art Polls are usually developed in collaboration with a local photographer or visual artist. They are a form of collective mapping and enable a public discourse from those that might be under-represented.

The original Art Poll project was developed in collaboration with photographer Sarah Walker and Monash University in 2021 exploring young people's experience of lockdown. And since the process has been used for a commission by Baboro International Festival for Children to understand children's feelings about climate change.

Jessica acknowledges that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live, play, and create and from which we are sustained with food and water. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and warmly welcome any First Nation peoples to this site.

I also gratefully acknowledge the City of Melbourne's ArtPlay and The Australian Government's Creative Australia for their consistent support that has sustained my practice and enabled me to grow as an artist.
